Flood Resiliency Assessment for Town of Wells

Town of Wells, Maine

To help Wells, Maine prepare for flooding, FBE worked with the Southern Maine Planning and Development Commission (SMPDC) to facilitate the completion of the Maine Flood Resilience Checklist from the Maine Geological Survey. This work immediately helps Wells build on the work the Town has done to assess climate threats and identify areas where it can prioritize its funds and attention in order to mitigate the threats from flooding. The work evaluates risks in the five main sections of the checklist: (1) risk and vulnerability, (2) critical infrastructure and facilities, (3) community planning, (4) social and economic vulnerability, and (5) natural environment. Through this process, Wells can determine where it should be strengthening community capacity and allocating funds in order to mitigate potential damage to infrastructure, impacts on freshwater supplies, and water treatment facilities. By completing the checklist, Wells will advance its efforts to increase local resilience, and build a strong foundation for future work.
