NEW ENGLAND

In northern New England, the Spotted Turtle (Clemmys guttata) and the Blanding’s Turtle (Emydoidea blandingii) are at the far northern edge of their range. Many types of development projects need detailed study of these species, which are listed in Maine as Threatened (Spotted Turtle) or Endangered (Blanding’s). FBE’s Dr. Kevin Ryan leads field surveys for rare and threatened reptiles, including Spotted and Blanding’s Turtles. FBE conducts these surveys in accordance with the latest and best professional standards for wildlife ecology (e.g., for Spotted Turtles, the 2019 Regional Spotted Turtle Assessment Protocol developed by the Spotted Turtle Working Group).

Dr. Ryan also has years of experience surveying for wood turtles (Glyptemys insculpta). The field data collected by FBE is meticulously analyzed and translated into clear, concise reports that provide all necessary information for clients and permitting agencies. Moreover, FBE is well-versed in serving as a liaison between clients and natural resource agencies, ensuring smooth communication and compliance throughout the project.
